3-D Text Using PSP 7

Making 3-D Text is a quick and easy project. No extra filters are needed. You only need PSP 5 to make any text appear 3-D. Keep in mind that the 'thicker' the font the better your 3-D effect will appear.

1. The first thing you want to do, is open up a new image. It is best if it is white or the nearest color to the background you are using on your page. Choose 24 bit, 16 million colors.

2. Pick a light and a dark color. Place the dark color as your foreground color.

3. Click on your 'Text' tool, and then click on your image. Next your text window will appear. Type in your text using the size and font style of your choice, with the following settings. Make sure your 'Antialias' and 'Floating' are checked.

4. With your text still 'selected' ( the little moving lines are still visible around your text ) go to 'IMAGE' / 'EFFECTS' / 'CUTOUT', and apply a cutout effect with the following settings. Interior Color and Shadow Color, should both be 'FOREGROUND COLOR'. Fill Interior Color should be UNCHECKED. Opacity 50, Blur 40, Offset Vertical and Horizontal both at '0'. See the following picture of the settings.

5. Now go to 'IMAGE' / 'EFFECTS' / 'DROP SHADOW', with the following settings. Attributes Color 'Black', Opacity 25, Blur 75, Offset Vertical and Horizontal 2. See the following picture.

6. Now switch your colors, and make the LIGHTER color be your 'foreground color'. See the example below.

7. Click on your TEXT tool again, and then click on your image. When your text window appears, simply click 'ok', because you want to apply the exact same text ( size and all ) to the image.

8. Now simply 'move' your text ( while still selected with the little moving lines around it ) to the left and down 'slightly'. Sometimes I find it easier, to just watch my number coordinates in the bottom left of my PSP screen, when applying the first and second set of text, and make sure that I apply that second text just a pixel or two lower than the first application.

9. You now have text that looks 3-D, as in the example below.
