Making Circular Text

With the newest version of Paint Shop Pro 6 and 7, comes the ability to create circular text

The first thing you need to do is open a new image.  For this tutorial I am going to use a white background, 250 x 250

Once your image is open, click on LAYERS / NEW VECTOR LAYER

When the Layer Properties Screen pops up make sure your settings are as below, with mask enabled and mask locked

Make SURE that your background and foreground colors are set at the same color

Next click on your SHAPES tool on your toolbar

circletext3.jpg (7110 bytes)

On your Tools Option Box, click on CIRCLE, with the Stroked & Filled option chosen, line width 1, antialias checked, create as vector checked

Place your cursor right exactly in the middle of your image ( at 125 x 125 ) and draw a circle. For this one I pulled the circle out to 200 x 200.   This will vary of course depending on how large you want your circle text to be, and how large your text is that you want to use.

I now have an image that looks like this ( NOTE: It wont matter if you chose Circle / Rectangle etc. you will still have an image that looks like the example below.

circletext6.jpg (12816 bytes)

Now click on your TEXT tool

circletext7.jpg (6983 bytes)

Now put your cursor over your image. Note that you will have a cursor that has a "half moon" as shown below. For this tutorial I used a black fill so that the half moon would show up, but in the actual process I would have used white foreground & background.

Left click your mouse, and your Text Screen will come up.

Make SURE that your Settings are as shown below

   A) Floating is Checked

                        B) Antialias is checked

You can use whatever color of text that you would like. (note that you change your text color on this screen shown, rather than by the color that is set in your foreground/background colors)

Then Click OK

You now have your text in a circle, with the selection still active. (marching ants still are present)

If you want to use a preset on your text, such as Blade Pro, or Eye Candy, you would now be able to apply that filter. (If I were using a preset/filter on this text I would have applied it in the color white, instead of the purple color I am using in the example for this tutorial.

Either apply your filter, or deselect your text.

Now go to Layers / Merge All / Select None (Note: if you try to select none, it will give you a message that it will merge with the nearest vector layer.   Go ahead and merge all flatten, and then click on Select None)

Here is the finished Circle Text in a Color, and One that I used Blade Pro for a Gold Effect

I will also add here, that when you use lowercase letters that drop down below the imaginary line, such as F, P, Y the bottom part of the letters sometimes are wiped out. I have not figured out a workaround for this problem, (hopefully future versions of PSP will eliminate this flaw) so I suggest you simply use UPPERCASE letters for using this technique.
