Making An Embossed Tiled Background
For this tutorial you will need to have the following plugin filters (see links below)
FM Tile Tools (the full registered version) Unplugged Tools (Colors)
Open up an image you would like to emboss and tile. Keep in mind that each image will turn out differently, depending on the settings, colors, and the image itself. I have found that each time I use this technique, it is necessary to change the settings to get the effect I have in mind. Dont be afraid to experiment, and try other settings, as this tutorial gives you a baseline of the steps necessary to achieve this look.
Now go to Colors / Grey Scale and convert your image to grey scale
Your image now is in greyscale and looks somewhat like this
Now go back to colors and Increase your Color Depth to 16 million 24 bit colors
Now go to Image / Plugins / FM Tile Tools and apply the Blend Emboss With Settings Shown Below ~This is the default setting so it wont be necessary to adjust your settings here
Now go to Image / Plugins / Unplugged Colors, and apply the Color / Pastel Effect. I used the settings shown below, but this can be varied for personal taste, and changed to give you many different pastel color effects
Now go back to your Image / Plugins / FM Tile Tools and Repeat Your Blend Emboss
Now go to Colors / Colorize and adjust the slider till you get a color you are happy with.
I used a nice blue for the tutorial
Now we are going to use the FM Tile Toos to make the image into a Seamless Tile Go to Image / Plugins / FM Tile Tools / Seamless Tile
You can vary your border width here, according to the look you are trying to achive. The higher you make it the more the image blends so play with this till you get the look you are wanting. I used a border width of 0.344 Apply the filter WITHOUT the Vertical Checked
Now repeat the same step, but this time make sure the VERTICAL "IS" Checked and adjust the slider to the same amount as you did in the last step
Now your image is embossed and made into a Seamless Tile that should give you a nice effect when added to your webpage. For fun, sometimes I use the 20/20 Tile Effect to give the image an offset tiled appearance. If you would like to know how that is done, see my tutorial for Making A Seamless Tile, where you will also find a link to download the 20/20 Tiler which is a free utility.
