Ok....here we go..... Make sure you are on your FRONT HAIR LAYER and paint some of the cap hair ~ you dont have to be terribly neat about this, as you can see, because this will all be covered later on. We paint this on the cap area, so as to make a nice solid background color to paint over. As you can see I painted down to about the ear & temple area. Dont worry if you get onto the ear a little bit, because you can erase this later, since you are on a layer above the figure.
Now, I ticked the BACK HAIR Layer, and painted the lower part of the hair that I wanted to show up behind the head. This is especially necessary when you are painting longer hair, so that it really looks natural with the hair behind the head and neck.
Now...since I have decided that I want to put a Ponytail on this girl, I painted a little knot of color up there on the top
Now it's time to change to the hairbrush and start painting some hair ~ Again click on the little arrow (highlighted)
And choose HAIRY Brush
You'll be asked if you want to replace your current brushes ~ Click OK (don't worry...you aren't permanently replacing them...this just loads these brushes instead of the default brushes)
I picked the # 19 brush ~ Again if you need to make this brush larger or smaller adjust your slider
Go back to your expanded brush icon (see below) and checkmark the SHAPE DYNAMICS and using the drop down arrow, choose FADE. I have it set at 100 but if you want shorter whisps you might want to lower it down to about 25 ~ which I do for the smaller whispys.
And start painting ! See how the FADE gives you those whispy ends instead of a blunt stroke of paint?
Continue painting and shaping your hairstyle. Below I have filled out more of the ponytail and some of the bangs and top of the hair.
And more hair ~ adding the bangs, some of the back of the hair and the temple area has been added
Then when you are happy with the shape of your hair, what you want to do is go back to your default brushes and paint in the inside areas of the hair to make sure it is covered completely solid. This makes for better looking hair if you do.
Now is a good time to clean up any areas around the ear etc. that you might have painted over and dont want there. Go to your HAIR layers and choose your ERASER tool and adjust the size to your needs and clean up as necessary
Ok...now here is where the magic begins, and where your hair really starts to look like HAIR ! Click below to go to the next page |
