Making A Marble Background With A Rainbow Multi Colored Effect

For this tutorial you will need the 'Eye Candy' filter by Alien Skin. You can get Eye Candy here

The first thing you need to do is to download and save this PSD file (link below)  that you will use to make your marble background, and save it to your computer. You can use this file over and over, for lots of projects and other marbled backgrounds.

Make Marble PSD

Open up the 'makemarble.psd' file

Do a  'shift' ~ 'D' to duplicate the psd file.  Then close the original makemarble psd so that you preserve the original for later use for other projects.  Now you will be working on the copy of the psd.

Now resize the copied psd file to a 200 x 200 pixel size

Now click on your 'Layers' Palette so you can see your layers. Note that the PSD file was saved so that you already have your two layers ready for you.

marbtut2.jpg (14605 bytes)

Click on the 'Color Fill' layer and right click your mouse and 'duplicate' the layer.  You now have 2 color fill layers.

marbtut3.jpg (16305 bytes)

With the bottom layer of color fill active and your color's you want to use already chosen, fill the layer with a color, by clicking on the 'bucket' and filling with a color.

marbtut4.jpg (19818 bytes)

Now reverse your foreground and background colors, and click on the middle layer, 'color fill' and fill that layer with the other color.

marbtut5.jpg (19131 bytes)

Now go to the 'Background' layer and slide the slider down to 57 and with the dropdown menu, change it from 'Normal' to "Dissolve"

marbtut6.jpg (12101 bytes)

Now you have an image that looks something like the one below.

marbtut7.jpg (17104 bytes)

Now you want to 'merge' all of your layers. Go to "layers" / "merge" / "merge all flatten"

marbtut8.jpg (14519 bytes)

Now go to Image/Noise and 'Add Noise with the following settings of   %Noise=66 ~ Uniform Checked and click "ok"

marbtut9.jpg (31552 bytes)

Next, go to Motion Blur  (Image/Blur/Motion Blur) and apply with the following settings, of 98 deg. and Intensity of 10 pixels. Click OK

marbtut10.jpg (26580 bytes)

Now go to Eye Candy / Jiggle, and apply a "Jiggle" with the following settings of  "Bubble Size" 52 ~ "Warp Amount" 22 ~ "Twist" 88 ~ "Movement Type" Brownian Motion.  Click OK

marbtut11.jpg (39308 bytes)

Now your image looks something like this. Note the colors that have bled on the edges. We will now get rid of those to give you a nice smooth edge to your marble background.

marbtut12.jpg (8944 bytes)

Go to "Selections" and Select "ALL"

marbtut13.jpg (13990 bytes)
