Creating Scan Lines In Paint Shop Pro 7
You've seen these stylish scanlines all over the web, that creates an interesting look to photographs. Now you'll see how easy these are to do, and you'll be able to save your scanline in psp file format and use again on other images. No outside filters or plugins are required for this technique. The first step is creating your scanline. Begin by opening a new 'Transparent' image 2 pixels high and whatever width you want your scanline to be. Personally, I like to make my scanline plenty wide, so that when I reuse it on wider images, the scanlines will easily cover the edges of the photograph. For this tutorial I made my scanline 500 wide and 2 pixels high
Now you will want to zoom in on your image so you can see what you are doing. Go to VIEW/ZOOM IN BY 5
Now click on your DRAW tool
On your Tools Option Box, set your line to a solid line, width 1 pixel, antialias checked
Set your foreground and background color to BLACK
Now use your DRAW tool to draw your line completely across your image. Remember that you are Zoomed in so you will have to make sure to scroll over to the far left and draw the line completely to the right side of your image, to make certain your line goes all the way across.
Now save your scanline in PSP file format so you can reuse it later for other projects. You might want to crop a tiny bit from the left and right side of the scanline to make sure you don't have a gap there before saving it. You can either leave your scanline image open or duplicate it to use for the rest of this tutorial, but you will need to have the image open in PSP so you can fill your photo Now open the image you want to apply your scanlines to and CREATE A NEW RASTER LAYER
Click on your Paintbucket Tool (Flood Fill Tool)
Now to over to your STYLES button (the little arrow shown on the image below) and then when the menu expands as shown, pick the little dotted lines (textures)
Now click in the middle of your styles texture as shown below and a new popup window will come up.
Scroll up (usually the image you have open in PSP will be up toward the top) and choose your Scanline image that is still open ~ Be SURE to set your ANGLE at 0 and click OK
Click on your paintbucket tool and flood fill the new layer you made with your scanline texture ~ Voilla !! You have some scanlines ! Now you may note that this darkens your image some and that might be ok and you might want to leave it as is. You can also try changing the properties of your layer to Soft Light to bring out your image a little better. To do that follow the next steps
Go over to your Layers Palette and click on the little arrow next to the word NORMAL as shown below (highlighted)
And choose SOFT LIGHT
That's it ! You now have your image completed. For fun try some of the other properties settings, like Overlay just to see how it might change your particular photo.
