Textured Cloud Background Tile

The textured look is popular right now.  You can make a tile with texture and have it multicolored too, as the one shown on the background of this tutorial.

In Photoshop, open up a new image, the size that you would like to make your tile. I made this a little larger than I normally would for actual use on the web, for illustration purposes.  Usually a 128 x 128 pixel image is sufficient. Fill it with the color of your choice, using the Bucket Fill Tool.

Now go to Filter / Render / Clouds and apply.

You'll come up with an image similar to the following illustration.

Now you need to make the image into the Seamless Tile.  (You can create a tile in PS without any third party plugin by going to  Filter / OTHER / OFFSET &  check WRAP AROUND )  However I  have never been able to achieve a good seamless tile with using that method, and prefer to use a 3rd party filter such as FM Tile Tools, to make it seamless. I use the default settings with FM Tile Tools, by first applying the setting with VERTICAL checked, and then repeating it with the Vertical Option UNCHECKED.

Now it's time to add a Texture to our tile. Go to FILTER/ TEXTURE  / TEXTURIZER Click on LOAD TEXTURE.

Navigate to your stash of PSD files and pick one you like.

You now have a beautifully tiled, and textured background to use on a page.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial.

Note: I have not tried this effect, with using the Alien Skin XENOFEX Cloud filter, however I think you could get pretty much the same effect.

You can get Xenofex here
