Creating a Transparent Gif in Photo Impact

Making a transparent background of your image in Photo Impact really is not difficult. It is just 'different' from the way you probably have been doing it.

Ok, you have your image finished and are ready to save it.    tgtut1.JPG (2287 bytes)

Now go to the top of your screen and click on 'Web' and then on 'Smart Saver'

In Photo Impact, you don't make the background transparent until you save it in the Smart Saver. When you save the image, choose the 'Mask Options' tab, then choose 'Pick Colors' from the dropdown list. Make sure you have the 'adjacent color only' checked. (See illustration below)

In the Smart Saver dialog box there are two versions of your image, the uncompressed image on the left, and the compressed image on the right. Hold down on the Control key (CTRL on your keyboard) and then position your mouse over the left side on the uncompressed image. As your cursor enters the area, it will turn into an Eyedropper. Click on the background color you wish to make transparent, then save your image. The white background will be transparent on your web page.

I hope this makes saving yoiur images with Transparent Backgrounds a little easier and understandable.

Note:

The Smart Saver works only in the registered version of Photo Impact, and will not work with the trial version.
